(Productivity) Turn Your Computer Off When Not Working
Sunday, November 20, 2011
This latest tip is so simple yet so genius. If you're like me and work from home you find yourself in front of the computer more often than not. Facebook, email, and the general internet is pretty much designed to be addictive—which can really get in the way of reality. Well, this tip is designed to train your brain:
When you finish work turn your computer off. Make this a habit. The result is when your addiction walks itself over to the computer, for anything other than work, it will find itself in front of a shut down computer and if there is anything more powerful than addiction—it's laziness. You know it's true. The effect is you'll snap out of it and force your conscious to be aware of the present moment. Think of it as snapping out of auto-pilot. Now you can take control of your body-ship and navigate it back to taking out the trash or authoring the unofficial biography of Lady Gaga (Coming Soon!). The long-term effect is you will only use your computer for work and become addiction free.
