Catching up on our favorite news comedy show The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, we caught photojournalist and all-around daretraveler Ben Lowly in a press interview about his book Iraq Perspectives. A really cool theme that sets this collection of work apart from the usual is that most photographs are taken inside a humvee, framing the shot in a creative decision that alters the experience this book can give. Check out the video for work samples and well-earned laughs.

Did you read the title? Did it not make sense? That's because you've never worked with a manager. See, it's not unusual for companies to hire people to do stuff, then hire other people (called Managers) to get in the way. Don't believe it? Watch Jason Fried give examples and explain how M&M's (managers and meetings) have become the design process' enemy numero uno. And if your manager fits the bill perhaps this Christmas your Secret Santa should skip the box of chocolates and send your manager this link instead. POW!

This latest tip is so simple yet so genius. If you're like me and work from home you find yourself in front of the computer more often than not. Facebook, email, and the general internet is pretty much designed to be addictive—which can really get in the way of reality. Well, this tip is designed to train your brain:

When you finish work turn your computer off. Make this a habit. The result is when your addiction walks itself over to the computer, for anything other than work, it will find itself in front of a shut down computer and if there is anything more powerful than addiction—it's laziness. You know it's true. The effect is you'll snap out of it and force your conscious to be aware of the present moment. Think of it as snapping out of auto-pilot. Now you can take control of your body-ship and navigate it back to taking out the trash or authoring the unofficial biography of Lady Gaga (Coming Soon!). The long-term effect is you will only use your computer for work and become addiction free.

If you're like most designers you often find yourself in front of beautiful designs and wonder "What's that typeface?" Often enough I stop everything I'm doing until I can ID the same font the designer used. Well, here's how to do that.

Picture: Your first step is to download or screen capture the image containing the typeface. The image above I got from 8 Faces, a design magazine. If you're out in the wild use your Jesus Phone to snap a shot.

Photoshop: You'll want to use Adobe Photoshop or default image-editor to crop the type from the rest of the image. You may also need to bump up the contrast for digital legibility, or rotate the image so that the type is aligned horizontally.

Import: Use MyFont's WhatTheFont to import the image. You'll be taken to a page where you can make edits to the default character recognition. Often enough this isn't necessary but it all depends on the cleanliness of your image.

Result: If the image was clean enough, and the font is recognized by WhatTheFont's database, you will get an answer to your question, "What's that font?" But if not...

Consult a Human: The example image above could not be identified by WhatTheFont's program, despite the fact that I cropped, aligned, and corrected the perspective in Photoshop. In this case you're going to want the help of humans. Take your image to the WhatTheFont forum and hopefully someone there will ID the font. For my particular example image I had better luck at Typophile's Type ID Board. If you're a Reddit fan you can always submit a post at /r/identifythisfont. And if you're a Twitter whore then message Stephen Coles of Typographica. He takes identification requests LIKE A BOSS!

I found some beautiful typefaces this way, some I now carry as a go-to-favorite. The beautiful typeface above? Well thanks to fvilanakis on the Typophile board it was identified as Conduit ITC Bold.
